If you think your relationship is heading for choppy waters, spare a thought for this couple. It all began at about 5am this morning when a 46 year-old man threatened to jump into the sea after having an argument over the phone with his 26 year-old girlfriend, Apple Daily reported.

He then hung up and his girlfriend sounded the alarm after she could not reach him and found his GPS location pin showed him in the sea just off the Sam Ka Tsuen ferry pier in Yau Tong.

Police and fire services rushed to the scene armed with scuba divers, and even the boyfriend’s mother rushed to the scene in tears.

In the meantime, police noticed something fishy after discovering that the exact location of the phone was actually near a park on Cho Yuen Street.

Officers went in to explore and caught the man sleeping on a park bench. They woke him up and found no injuries or evidence that he fell into the sea.

He returned home with his mother. Hopefully his relationship with his girlfriend doesn’t go off the deep end from here.
