Unlucky mainland scammer accidentally calls Hong Kong police officer, gets arrested

We almost feel sorry for this criminal.

A 26-year-old mainland man was arrested Tuesday for deception and possession of a fake ID after karma bit him in the ass and had him attempt to scam a police officer, reports Apple Daily.

In the afternoon a police constable from the Tsz Wan Shan station answered his phone and heard a boy crying for help: “Dad, it’s me! It’s me!”.

Then a man came on the line, telling the officer that his son had been kidnapped and a HKD230,000 ransom must be paid for his release.

The quick-thinking officer was not fooled, but played along with the would-be scammer.

The constable, who also deserves an Oscar, agreed to bring the money to Luen Wan Street in Mong Kok at 7pm that night.

But the scammer, of course, was not greeted by bags of cash as he had hoped, but was instead ambushed by an entire squadron of officers.

Whoops! The police also found a fake HKID on him, and he was detained for the night for futher interrogation.

Amazingly, this isn’t the first time this has happened.

The police said that there have been many similar cases recently and they will continue to investigate the incident.
