Student slammed for pulling ‘killer clown prank’ in Tung Chung

A Hong Kong student was heavily criticised by netizens after he uploaded a video of a “Killer clown attack prank” in Tung Chung to Youtube.

The footage, which was apparently filmed as a “Halloween prank” was uploaded to Youtube on Nov. 8 with the caption “This Halloween went super well in Hong Kong, the idea of making this kind of prank was literally just random but hopefully no one got offended nor injured! It was actually a bit spooky when i wore the clown mask for the first time but it turned out to be OK!”

The clip went viral yesterday evening after it was shared on the forum HK Golden and uploaded to the popular Facebook pages 啱Channel and Tung Chung Future, garnering thousands of views in a few hours.

In the video, the student dressed as a “killer clown”, hid in dark corners, and leapt out at unsuspecting passersby in Tung Chung. One of his victims, who was riding a bicycle, was even seen abandoning the bike and running for his life.

While some commenters appeared to find the so-called prank funny, others were concerned that the video would bring the killer clown craze to Hong Kong. Most reactions were overwhelmingly negative, with one commenter saying her pregnant sister was recently hospitalised after she was hurt during a similar prank.

Headline Daily reports that multiple netizens took it upon themselves to contact the “clown” directly on Facebook to make him take it down, and reportedly filed complaints with the Hong Kong Police Force.

Just after midnight today, the student removed the clip from Youtube and demanded its removal from various Facebook pages, saying he’d learnt his lesson and wouldn’t pull the prank again.

The “killer clown” craze began in late August after children in the American state of South Carolina reported seeing scary clowns who tried to lure them into remote locations. A rash of sightings were reported across the country and the killer clowns were soon spotted in Canada, the U.K., and Australia.

Last month, a teenager was arrested after he was seen terrorising students with a chainsaw at the Brunel University campus in London.
