A street workout champion (they exist, we looked it up) has been sentenced to 160 hours of community service for taking an upskirt photo of a high school student while riding on an escalator.

Nicholas Wong Wai-fung, 24 — the three-time winner of the Hong Kong Street Workout Championship — appeared in court earlier this month after he was caught taking upskirt photos of the 18-year-old high schooler at the Tsz Ching Estate in Wong Tai Sin.

Headline Daily reports he was found guilty of one count of outraging public decency on Thursday, March 14. He was sentenced to community service during an appearance at Kowloon City Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Wong had earlier pleaded not guilty to the charge, but according an Apple Daily report on the sentencing, he admitted to committing the crime during a recent meeting with a probation officer, saying that he had taken the upskirt shot because he was curious (really? that’s your excuse?), and that he regretted doing it.

His attorney also presented letters written by friends and family of Wong pleading for the magistrate to be lenient.

The magistrate also received letters of support from the founders of Street Workout Hong Kong (SWHK), saying that Wong contributed to the city by representing it in overseas street workout competitions, and that he is relied upon by members of the community for his professional guidance.

The magistrate noted that first-time offenders who commit an act outraging public decency can get up to seven years in jail. However, she added, since the defendant had expressed remorse — and presumably because he was such a pillar (plank?) of the street workout community — she had decided that community service would be more appropriate.
