A Filipino woman who slipped and fell down a slope during a hike yesterday was forced by bad weather to spend the night in Ma On Shan country park before being airlifted out and taken to hospital this morning.
According to on.cc, six Filipino and Indonesian women aged 31 to 44 were hiking through Ma On Shan country park yesterday afternoon.
At about 5:40pm, the group reached a trail called Skyline Path, and one of the hikers, 31, slipped and fell some 20 meters down a slope.
Rescuers found the hikers just after midnight, but had to postpone the rescue operation because of bad weather, and camped at the scene overnight.
This morning, firefighters accompanied the five uninjured hikers out of the park, with the group arriving at the park’s entrance at around 7am.
Headline Daily reports that the injured hiker was airlifted out just before 8:25am. The rescue operation reportedly took about four hours as firefighters tried to get the woman into a safe position to be airlifted.
She was taken to Eastern Hospital in a conscious state with injuries to her arms, legs, face, and waist.
According to on.cc, the Skyline Path is about 500 meters above sea level, and lies on the eastern side of Ma On Shan Peak.
The woman is at least the second person to be airlifted off of a Ma On Shan hiking path in as many weeks. Late last month, an expat man had to be flown to the hospital after slipping on a particularly difficult trail on Tiu Shau Ngam ridge.
