Two rats were spotted scurrying across a refrigerated compartment in a bakery in Kwai Hing Saturday.
Photos on Facebook showed the rodents in a bakery at Kwai Shing East Shopping Center, sandwiched between the fridge—with cakes and Swiss rolls—and the glass window.
The pictures were taken at night after the bakery had closed.
Representatives of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) have already visited the bakery for an inspection, according to HK01.

A shopkeeper told HK01 that the rat sightings could be related to the fact that the mall is undergoing renovation. She said rats are frequently spotted in the area, but that they’ve never been seen inside the bakery.
The bakery manager emphasized that food in the shop has since been thrown away. He said that FEHD representatives believe the rats slipped into the bakery via a gap in the glass doors, and that the shop would take the department’s advice to seal the opening.
