Prisoner convicted of murdering 3 women found hanged in jail cell

A 31-year-old man who was convicted of murdering three women was found hanged in his jail cell earlier today at Shek Pik Prison. 

The prisoner was found hanging from a noose made from his pullover at around 6:44am today, according to a government statement. After administering first aid, prison staff sent him to a public hospital, where he was confirmed dead at 8:23am. 

The case was ruled a suicide and has been reported to the police. 

Ming Pao reports that the deceased, a Pakistani man surnamed Nadeem, was convicted on three counts of murder, a charge which carries the mandatory sentence of life imprisonment.

He had reportedly killed three female sex workers, aged 30 to 35, between March 13 and 16 of 2008, when he was 24 years old.
