A 21-year-old pregnant woman died yesterday evening after she fell into a coma en route to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where doctors worked quickly to save her unborn child.

The 24-weeks-pregnant Pakistani woman, surnamed Ruksar, was visiting friends in Sham Shui Po with her husband at around 7pm yesterday when she suddenly felt unwell. Ruksar, who has a history of heart disease, decided to go to the hospital with her husband, but fell into a coma before the taxi even arrived, Apple Daily reports.

The 21-year-old was rushed into the A&E unit in critical condition, where doctors performed an emergency c-section to deliver her unborn baby. Ruksar died shortly afterward.

According to Apple Daily, the deceased had a congenital heart disease and had suffered a miscarriage under two years ago. Her daughter, who is 16 weeks premature, is currently in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit in critical condition.
