Police have arrested a 65-year-old school bus driver after his vehicle hit and killed an elderly pedestrian as she crossed the road this morning in Aberdeen.

In an online statement, the force said the accident occurred just after 8am this morning along Ap Lei Chau Main Street, as the driver was heading west.

“When approaching near 163 Ap Lei Chau Main Street, [the bus] reportedly knocked down the 75-year-old woman who was crossing the road,” the statement read.

The driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and is being detained for further enquiries.

The incident follows a spate of recent fatal accidents on Hong Kong’s roads, including the death of a 56-year-old on Monday, who was crushed by a taxi in Sham Shui Po.

In the same area on Sunday, a 60-year-old man was hit and killed by a truck as he unloaded goods from a delivery van, the SCMP reported.
