Police seize HK$20 million in drugs bust, 3 men arrested

Three men were arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking after police seized around HK$20 million (US$2.5 million) worth of drugs.

Officers said most of the drugs seized — including cocaine and ‘Erimin 5’ — were found inside a mini-storage facility inside an industrial building in Kwai Chung. Erimin is a brand name of nimetazepam, which is a drug similar to Valium.

According to Ming Pao, police arrested a 23-year-old man surnamed Lam at around 7pm on Friday, Dec 8. Lam was reportedly stopped by officers outside the Yam Hop Hing Industrial Building on 40 Kwai Wing Road, where they seized from him a plastic bag with about 1,000 nimetazepam tablets.

Police then raided a locker that Lam used in the building where they found about 13 kilograms of cocaine, and 790,000 nimetazepam tablets.

Officers then arrested two men surnamed Kwan and Tam, 25 and 26, at a hotel in Tsuen Wan at 2am on Saturday on suspicion of being responsible for recruiting drug distributors and buyers.

Police said they believed the suspects used 24-hour mini-storage facility to store drugs and then retrieved them whenever they made a sale, RTHK reports.

Speaking to reporters last night, senior police inspector Wong Po-ling said: “Our operation has stopped a batch of drugs from entering the local market. We will continue our investigation and will not rule out any more arrests.”
