Police investigate potential link between fatal crash and wounding case in Sham Shui Po

Police are investigating if a man who was killed in a traffic accident last night in Sham Shui Po was connected to a wounding case that had happened nearby, shortly before the collision.

The incident occurred at around 7:28pm yesterday, when a light goods vehicle travelling from Tai Nan Street to Wong Chuk Street hit a 34-year-old Vietnamese man who was crossing the road, police said in a statement.

According to Apple Daily, the driver allegedly didn’t realise he had hit someone and drove away from the scene. A passerby who witnessed the collision stopped the vehicle on Yu Chau Street, around 150 metres away, and called the police.

The victim was pronounced dead when responding officers arrived at the scene. Police arrested the 59-year-old driver surnamed Chan for dangerous driving causing death.

Moments before the collision, a 57-year-old man surnamed Chan was injured on a rooftop of a building at 175 Tai Nan Street. Chan sustained a wound to his arm that he said was caused by a friend with a glass bottle, who later fled. An investigation into whether the two cases are connected is underway.

Anyone who witnessed either of the incidents or has relevant information to offer is urged to contact police by calling 3661 9000 or 3661 9023.
