Pro-democracy Apple Daily group’s websites in Hong Kong and Taiwan have been hacked and attacked since 3:30am today. Netizens have been unable to access the content of the group’s website, and Apple Daily announced the attack on its Facebook page.
Next Media claims that the website is down due to a cyber attack deliberately overwhelming the number of demands to access the site causing the website to be unable to deliver services – it’s a series of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, reports the SCMP.
Apple Daily has been pro-democracy and supportive of the Occupy Central campaign public vote. And the attack on Next Media comes after the internet platform for the mock referendum on political reform was attacked the same way (DDoS attack) a couple of days ago.
The RTHK reports that Democratic Party legislator James To is seeking the police conduct a through investigation into these cyber attacks.
