Police arrested a naked man who was taking a leisurely stroll through Tseung Kwan O yesterday before allegedly stealing some girls’ clothing from a store and assaulting a police officer.

Photos posted on social media on Sunday afternoon shows the naked man — later identified as a 41-year-old surnamed Lam — walking through the Metro City Plaza shopping mall.

Video sent to Apple Daily shows that Lam had been spotted earlier walking outside Po Lam MTR station close to the mall.

According to the newspaper, he went into the mall to a store that specializes in young girls’ underwear and casual wear, and stole three items of clothing worth about HK$350 (US$45). It was at this point that staff at the store called the police.

Five police officers apprehended Lam outside the mall, and he allegedly punched one of the officers during the arrest.

He was taken in for indecent exposure, theft, and assaulting a police officer. The officer who was punched was sent to hospital with injuries to the face and leg. As of press time, police had not responded to a request for comment from Coconuts HK as to the exact nature of the officer’s injuries.

A preliminary investigation found that Lam had a record of mental illness.
