A 41-year-old motorcyclist died after crashing into a van while speeding along a highway in an apparent attempt to evade police on Sunday afternoon.

Apple Daily reports that in the minutes leading up to the crash, the motorcyclist, surnamed Fung, was being pursued by traffic cops for speeding along Kam Tin Road, a highway in the New Territories that runs between Tai Mo Shan and Yuen Long.

A four-second dash cam video posted online shows Fung driving at high speed on Kam Tin Road with a police motorcycle on his tail just six minutes before the crash.

At around 3:35pm, as Fung was approaching a bus stop near the Pat Heung Old Temple, he ran into the side of a silver van that was driving in the opposite direction and turning right across Fung’s lane.

After sideswiping the van, Fung’s bike careened into the wall of a business on the roadside.

The driver of the van was taken to hospital with injuries to his head and arms, and Fung was taken to Pok Oi Hospital in Yuen Long with serious injuries, but was declared dead just after 4:15pm, Apple Daily reports.
