Police are investigating a suspected murder-suicide case, in which a 45-year-old Hong Kong woman and her 10-year-old daughter fell to their deaths yesterday.
At around 6:43pm, the pair fell from their 28th-floor flat at 15 Pui Shing Road in Hang Hau, Apple Daily reports. Pedestrians called emergency services, who rushed to the scene and found both mother and daughter on the ground outside Hang Hau MTR Station Exit A.
Police said in a statement that the 10-year-old girl was certified dead at the scene while her mother, surnamed Yeung, was taken to Tseung Kwan O Hospital and certified dead at 7:01pm. At the time, Yeung’s husband was out of the house, as was the couple’s six-year-old son.
According to Oriental Daily, Yeung had allegedly threatened in front of her children to commit suicide, after her husband raised the possibility of a divorce. Police found a suicide note on the family’s fridge door, which was allegedly penned by both mother and daughter. In it, the pair reportedly asked to be buried together.
