Minibus driver in deadly Kowloon Tong hit-and-run wanted by police

A minibus driver responsible for a hit-and-run in Kowloon Tong that left a 42-year-old road worker dead yesterday is currently at large, while the vehicle allegedly involved in the accident has been found.

The accident, which took place on Waterloo Road, saw a green-top minibus going towards Mong Kok crash into the road worker at around 1am. The minibus driver drove off, while the road worker was admitted into hospital and pronounced dead.

The deceased was wearing a reflective vest and hard hat, reports Apple Daily.

Following the accident, a man was apparently seen “frantically cleaning up a minibus” in Tai Wai by a member of the public, the paper said. Hearing media reports of the hit-and-run, the member of the public reported what he saw to the police.

Although the man had left the scene and the minibus had driven off by the time police arrived, they were able to track down the suspected vehicle at a Ma On Shan garage, where it was being repaired.

The driver is currently wanted by the police.
