Masked robber steals HKD40,000 from Tuen Mun bank, throws ‘paint thinner’ at staff

Police are on the hunt for a masked man who reportedly stole HKD40,000 in cash from a bank in Tuen Mun after throwing “paint thinner” on a member of staff.

At around 4pm yesterday, the man walked into Fubon Bank outlet on Kai Man Path and declared he was going to rob the bank, Apple Daily reports.

The robber then splashed some liquid — which he claimed was paint thinner — from a bottle he was carrying onto a member of staff before taking HKD40,000 and fleeing the premises.

Police who arrived on the scene were unable to find a man matching the suspect’s description in the vicinity of the bank.

The staff member who was splashed with liquid and a colleague who said he was “overly frightened” were sent to hospital for medical examinations.
