‘It’s nothing’: Man has face partially torn off in traffic accident in TST, tries to leave

A man is in critical condition after his face was partially torn off in a serious traffic accident in Tsim Sha Tsui in the early hours of Monday.

According to Apple Daily (warning: graphic content), a white Toyota seven-seater hit the victim as he was crossing the road at the junction between Prat Avenue and Hart Avenue just after 12am on Monday. A video of the man taken immediately after the accident went viral after it was shared on social media.

In the footage, the 52-year-old can be seen with a large piece of skin hanging off his face, revealing the viscera underneath. There are what appear to be tyre marks on his stomach. The man, who was apparently unfazed, was filmed lying on the ground and smoking a cigarette. He was heard talking with someone, believed to be his friend, in a foreign language while a police officer treated his wound.

The 52-year-old, who was not identified, apparently attempted to get up and leave, to which his friend repeatedly said, “relax, relax”. In the video, the victim can be heard telling a paramedic, “It’s nothing, it’s nothing. I just had too much to drink” in Cantonese.

Eventually, the man was reportedly convinced into going to Queen Elizabeth Hospital., where he is currently in critical condition. An investigation into the cause of the incident is underway. It remains unclear if anyone has been arrested so far.
