A 44-year-old man was charged with illegally possessing 18 guns and more than 3,000 bullets without a license yesterday.

According to on.cc, defendant Li Chung-man was charged with unlicensed possession of firearms or ammunition at West Kowloon Magistrates’ Court yesterday morning.

The court refused Li’s application for bail, and he was remanded in custody until April 23.

The prosecution states that Li was apprehended by officers on February 21 as he was walking around Mong Kok acting suspiciously. Officers searched Li’s home, in Yu Chui Court in Sha Tin, and his office, also in Sha Tin, finding four rifles, 14 pistols, and 3,619 bullets.

Headline Daily reports that police also arrested Li’s wife, though she was released on bail and is expected to report back to the police station in March.

Those found guilty of possession of arms or ammunition without a license can be handed a fine of HK$100,000 (about US$12,700) and sentenced to 14 years in prison.
