Lost dog rescued after SPCA staff abseil down 60-ft cliff in epic 3-day search

While we have always firmly believed that the people working at the SPCA are heroes, the charity’s staff recently demonstrated just how far they’d go to save needy animals in an epic three-day mission to rescue a lost dog, which required inspectors to abseil down a 60-foot-cliff.

A woman living in Kwai Tei Village in Fo Tan called the SPCA at noon on Jan. 21 to say she had heard barks coming from the hills for two days, Apple Daily reports. SPCA inspectors arrived two hours later and combed the area, but failed to find the dog by nightfall.

Undeterred, the inspectors returned the next morning with equipment which allowed them to abseil down the valleys in their search, but turned up empty handed yet again.

The next day, the SPCA’s staff turned out in full force (we’re talking all off-duty inspectors and volunteers) to search for the dog, with a rented rubber boat and abseiling equipment in tow. Hours later, they finally located the dog, a five-year-old mongrel called Dolly, on a rock near the bottom of a 60-foot-cliff, overlooking a lake.

One team of inspectors abseiled down the cliff to reach Dolly, and using a pulley, carefully lowered him down the crag, where another team of inspectors was waiting with the rubber boat.

They brought the hungry pup to safety and took it to the SPCA centre in Wan Chai for medical care. According to a statement shared on the charity’s Facebook page, Dolly was uninjured and in normal condition, and was later reunited with his owner.

All in all, we cannot thank the SPCA enough not only for this epic mission, but their tireless work to improve the lives of animals in Hong Kong. Also, we would like to suggest that they make “Ain’t Not Mountain High Enough” their unofficial anthem from now on (seriously, listen to the lyrics):
