Losers weepers? Police investigate after officer misplaces baton while on patrol duty

An officer misplaced his baton while on patrol duty in Sai Kung Friday, prompting an appeal to the public to call 999 and return the “lost government property” if found.

According to police, officers searched the area upon receiving a report that the baton had gone missing, but found no sign of the vanished object.

Members of the public should dial 999 or bring the baton to the nearest police station should it be chanced upon, an emailed statement to Coconuts read.

Police added that its management and use of equipment are strictly regulated, and that the force is investigating the incident.

The officer belongs to the Sai Kung police division’s Miscellaneous Enquiry Unit.

According to the South China Morning Post, Hong Kong police officers carry a baton, pepper spray and a pair of handcuffs—among other gear—in their belt while on patrol.
