HKO may replace T3 warning with ‘Strong Monsoon’ signal today

In case you hadn’t noticed, it’s pretty wet out there.

While the folks over at the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) say Typhoon Sarika’s direct threat to Hong Kong is expected to decrease gradually throughout the day, the T3 warning — indicating strong winds — which has been in force since 1:40pm yesterday may be changed to a “Strong Monsoon” signal.

If you (like us) aren’t super familiar with what that entails, it means that winds associated with a monsoon are either blowing in excess of 40 kilometres per hour near sea level, or are expected to. Capiche?

Congratulations, flaky people. You now have a reason to cancel your plans… for the rest of the week, because look at this damn weather:

It’s going to be rainy and overcast today and tomorrow (with extra squalls today for good measure), before we get a brief sunny reprieve between rain showers on Thursday.

Unfortunately for those without water-resistant shoes, it’s back to regular programming (a.k.a. wet and wild weather) on Friday and Saturday.

We’re going to need this to keep our spirits up this week. Photo: Warner Bros

Ugh. We’re going to need Bill Murray’s amazing umbrella hat from Space Jam, pronto, if we’re to get through this week with our morale intact.
