Hillary Clinton’s Hong Kong shopping list revealed by WikiLeaks

Even presidential hopefuls need time out to shop and relax every now and then.

And what better place to do it than in the Fragrant Harbour?

Hillary Clinton was advised on where to shop in Hong Kong ahead of her visit to the SAR in 2011, according to an email revealed by WikiLeaks.

The email, titled “Hong Kong Shopping”, featured recommendations ranging from art and antiques to clothing, jewellery and accessories.

It included tourist-friendly recommendations like Shanghai Tang, hidden gems like Wattis Fine Art (“great collection of antique maps”), and even some shops totally off the beaten track — like LIII LIII in Admiralty, which offers “Birkin-like bags” that don’t come with the hefty price tags of the real thing.

And who doesn’t love a knock-off handbag that’s “perfectly legal”?

The list was compiled by Hong Kong-based Nancy Hernreich Bowen, formerly a managing director of the Clinton Global Initiative Asia. The email was sent to Clinton confidant Huma Abedin, who currently serves as her presidential campaign’s vice-chairwoman.

Upon receiving the list, Clinton instructed Abedin: “Pls print.”

Clinton’s email archives from June 2010 to 2014, during which time she served as Secretary of State, were released by WikiLeaks. Obtained from a private email server, the emails showed correspondence between Clinton and her aides, as well as sensitive information.
