Firefighters, police and SPCA fail to rescue kitten from drainpipe in Wan Chai

(This is not a picture of the trapped kitten.)

Shortly before 1am yesterday morning, a pedestrian reported a meowing sound coming from a drainpipe on the underside of the Canal Road flyover in Wan Chai, leading them, quite reasonably, to believe a cat was trapped inside.

The police arrived on the scene and found a small brown kitten inside the pipe, reports Oriental Daily.

The SPCA then arrived and tried to use cat food to lure the little feline out, to no avail. Firefighters had to step in, but only managed to scare the cat deeper and deeper into the pipe.

The firefighters continued their efforts for the next hour, but eventually could not hear any sounds from the kitten.

It is believed that the poor cat travelled further down the pipe, possible towards the underground waterways.
