Family feud: Hong Kong woman and husband sue parents for noise and incense burning

Today’s most ridiculous family drama award goes to this saga right here.

A woman and her husband are suing her parents for HKD200,000 for burning incense and making too much noise at night while they were living together at a public housing estate in Wong Tai Sin between 2013 and 2014, according to papers filed yesterday.

Apparently “forced to move out” of the flat they shared at Lower Wong Tai Sin Estate after having enough of her parents, the married couple is also asking to be compensated for the rent they spent on other properties, an “occupancy fee”, and other costs including interest and court fees, reports Sing Tao Daily.

In a further twist to the story, the couple, who reportedly own the property that her parents live in, are also asking for it to be returned.

In the papers they filed, the couple claimed that they had repeatedly asked the woman’s parents not to light incense inside the home, due to the woman’s medical problems. The parents are alleged to have said, “Don’t think you’re bigger than everyone else just because you’re sick.”

We can imagine why the couple might have felt a little incensed, geddit?

The couple also claimed that the parents would watch TV with the volume turned up high in the early hours, while also “inviting friends over for mahjong at least four to five days a week”.

Who’d have thought parents and in-laws could make such bad housemates?
