A driver believed to have forgotten to pull the handbrake before exiting his vehicle was trapped and killed between two trucks yesterday in Kowloon Bay.

The 63-year-old truck driver, surnamed Hui, got out of his Mitsubishi Fuso FEC91 at Yeung Yiu Chung No.8 Industrial Building car park on Wang Hoi Road at about 12pm to check the damage on the back of his truck after it hit another vehicle while reversing, according to Apple Daily.

At that point, his 9-ton vehicle began rolling forward and to the right, towards another truck. Hui attempted to get back to the driver’s seat, but was crushed between the two vehicles before he could climb into the cab.

Responding police and firefighters arrived at the scene and pulled the unconscious driver from between the two trucks before taking him to Union Christian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Initial investigations showed that the truck was in gear with the engine running during the incident.

Hui leaves behind a wife and two adult daughters.
