‘Don’t brush your teeth’, Cathay Pacific warns after 14 planes’ drinking water contaminated

Cathay Pacific found that the drinking water supply was contaminated on 14 of its planes, representing a 10th of the airline’s entire fleet.

After tests showed the contamination, the airline enacted emergency measures like providing 60 to 80 extra 1.5-litre bottles of water, and warning passengers to not brush their teeth using the bathroom tap water, reports Apple Daily.

At least now you have a legitimate excuse for your funky post-flight breath!

Eight planes have been sterilised and cleaned, while the remaining six will be fixed ASAP. The Airport Authority also cleaned the pipes at three water supply stations.

Cathay is working with the Department of Health to determine the cause of the contamination, as it is believed that the source of the contamination must lurk at Hong Kong Airport.

The contaminated planes include five Boeing 777s, five Airbus 333s, and aircrafts that are only one or two years old. The affected planes usually go to places like mainland China, Taiwan, Japan and the US.

Cathay flight attendants have complained that the situation makes their job harder, since it is more difficult to serve passengers hot beverages. If at first you don’t succeed, strike, strike again!
