A Filipino domestic worker has found herself in hot water after a mother found bleach in the bathing solution she used to wash her infant daughter.

The woman was detained on Monday, according to Apple Daily, which reported police held her on suspicion of ill-treatment or neglect of a child in her care.

Officers are now investigating whether it was a mix-up or something more sinister.

The case came to light after the mother of the child, a 35-year-old woman surnamed Chan, discovered several reddish dots on her sixth-month-old daughter after helping her to take a bath on Monday around noon.

According to Apple Daily, Chan, after also experiencing skin irritation after washing her child, questioned the worker, who then acknowledged putting bleach in the solution.

She maintained, however, that the batch with bleach was meant for washing the toilet, not the child.

Chan reported the case to the police, while her daughter was sent to Prince of Wales Hospital, from where she was later discharged.

The domestic worker had reportedly resigned on the Saturday prior to the incident and, after 18 months with the family, was set to have her last working day yesterday.
