Prosecutors have dropped a child abuse charge against a Filipino domestic helper after it emerged that red marks found on the child could simply be diaper rash.
Gina Cannu Buduan, 38, who was accused of using a vibrator to hit a 2-year-old girl in her care, appeared at Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Court today.
The court heard that Baduan’s employer found red marks on her 2-year-old daughter’s private parts.
However, the prosecution today asked the court to drop the charge citing a medical report of the girl showing the red marks could be possibly diaper rash or scratches, hk01 reported.
According to on.cc, officers were also unable to get a statement from the girl as she was unable to identify true or false.
With no other independent witnesses, and in light of the alternative explanations, the magistrate decided to drop the case.
It was reported that Baduan had been working for the family who lived in a private housing estate in Tseung Kwan O last year, and was dismissed and arrested after the 2-year-old told her mother that Baduan hit her with the vibrator.
