Police have confirmed no criminal action was taken over a now-viral bizarre incident where a woman appeared to hurl herself into a car after it halted to let her pass, in what some suspected may have been an intended scam.

The apparent attempt to feign an accident began getting attention yesterday afternoon, after dash cam footage showing the woman essentially charging toward, and into, a stopped car emerged online.

Initially, the outcome of the incident was unclear, though some commentators suggesting the woman’s actions might have been aimed at exacting undue compensation, a practice known to happen on the mainland.

According to Apple Daily, officers have confirmed that on the day of the incident, March 9, they received a report at 7:22am of a traffic accident near the junction between Tat Chee Avenue and Tsuek Kiu Street in Kowloon Tong.

The report, they say, was made by a 43-year-old male doctor surnamed Yu, the driver of the vehicle that caught the incident on dash cam.

A 41-year-old woman surnamed Chan was taken to Caritas Medical Centre where she was treated for neck injuries.

However, after a preliminary investigation, police said they found nothing criminal, and handed over the case to Special Investigation Team of Traffic of Kowloon West for follow up.

Police also reminded pedestrians not to behave irresponsibly and dangerously when crossing the road, two apt adverbs for describing any attempt to hurl oneself into a car.
