A policeman drew his gun, while another smashed a car’s window with a baton in a bid to stop suspects during a high-speed pursuit through the streets of Kowloon early yesterday morning, according to reports.

Caught on dashcam, the dramatic chase, which ended with two people detained and another two on the run, began after police set up a roadblock on Prince Edward Road in San Po Kong as part of a routine operation to intercept drunk drivers, wrote Apple Daily.

The car containing the suspects and, as police would later discover, drugs, didn’t stop.

Instead, at about 2am, the Volkswagen Golf rammed its way through the checkpoint, sparking a chase which stretched for about 3 kilometers until the fleeing vehicle, after running several red lights, got stuck behind another car at an intersection.

Officers, including some on police motorcycles, used the opportunity to intercept the occupants and can be seen in the footage published by Apple Daily rushing to and surrounding the car.

While a sergeant at the scene drew his gun and warned the driver to stop, another officer, a constable, used his baton to break the car’s front right window and open the door, allowing policemen to drag out the 28-year-old driver surnamed Ngan, who now faces charges of dangerous driving, drug trafficking and possession of an offensive weapon.

Also arrested, a male passenger surnamed Lom 33, faces the same offenses, minus the dangerous driving count.

Seized from the car were small amounts of cocaine, crystal meth and cannabis, worth about HK$3,000 (US$383), along with a cleaver, wrote The Standard.

Police are still hunting a man and a woman who escaped during the pursuit. Footage published by Apple Daily shows them exiting the car and running away.

The suspects are believed to be linked to the Wo Shing Wo triads, according to the SCMP.
