The corpse of a newborn kitten was found beheaded and chopped up in a village in Tsuen Wan Thursday evening.
Police received a report from a man, surnamed Tai, about the disturbing sight.
Officers responded to the call at Hon Man Village on Po Fong Road, where they found the month-old kitty’s head, limbs and tail severed. The incident is being investigated as an animal abuse case.
Police also discovered four kittens but were unable to locate the mother, Oriental Daily reported. The kittens were taken in by representatives with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), who also arrived at the scene.
According to local media website Animal Post, residents in the village have reported incidents of cats going missing and mysterious pet deaths.
Nobody has been arrested as of Friday evening.
Under Hong Kong law, persons found guilty of animal cruelty can face up to three years in jail and a fine of HK$200,000 (US$25,800).
