Leung Chun-ying has become the first Hong Kong chief executive with a second role in the central government after he was elected as a vice-chairman of Beijing’s political advisory body earlier today.

A total of 2,066 delegates voted Leung in to the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) on the final day of its annual plenary meeting. Six delegates’ votes weren’t counted, while 13 others voted against and 16 abstained, according to HK01.

Beijing’s nomination drew criticism as Leung’s “second job” would allegedly violate the “One Country, Two Systems” policy which states clearly no Beijing officials shall meddle in Hong Kong’s internal affairs.

Meanwhile, Leung, amid investigations by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), reiterated that the HKD50 million payment he received from Australian company UGL in 2011 was not a conflict of interest as he left for Beijing on Sunday, SCMP reports.

Chan Wing-kee, a member of the standing committee of the CPPCC, previously told reporters that the nomination was to praise Leung’s hard work during 2014’s Occupy movement and his firm resistance against the city’s pro-independence drive.

Leung will become the CPPCC’s 21st vice-chairman, following the example of Hong Kong’s first chief executive Tung Chee-hwa and Macau’s former chief executive.
