Boy believed to have been abandoned on MTR reunites with mother

A boy found alone on the MTR yesterday evening, who was thought to have been abandoned by his family, was later confirmed to have just been lost and thankfully reunited with his family.

At around 7pm, a commuter told MTR staff members at Causeway Bay Station that a crying young boy was seen wandering along one of the platforms by himself, and expressed concern that the boy had been abandoned, Apple Daily reports. Staff brought the child to the station’s control room. He was reportedly carrying an umbrella, HKD1,000 in cash, and a two-way permit issued in Fujian, a southeastern Chinese province.

A spokesperson for MTR Corp. later confirmed the incident, adding that the boy was reunited with his mother at around 7:45pm after she sought help from staff.

Between September and December 2016, three suspected abandonment cases were recorded, with the youngest child being only two weeks old. In early December, a five-month baby was found at a barbecue site in Sai Kung with a note saying she had cerebral palsy.
