Boy, 12, arrested after punching boy so hard his glasses broke

A schoolyard football match turned nasty this week, with a 12-year-old boy arrested following a post-game brawl that left another competitor needing 20 stitches near his right eye.

The incident took place on a football pitch at King George V School, an international secondary school in Ho Man Tin in Kowloon on Tuesday.

According to Apple Daily, the victim, a 12-year-old student surnamed Yeung, was punched in the face after his side won the match, with the blow breaking his glasses.

Yeung had to be sent to Queen Elizabeth hospital to have fragments of his glasses removed from his face.

His parents called the police two days later after learning that the school had not alerted the authorities.

According the the newspaper, a 12-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of wounding.

A spokesperson from the English Schools Foundation – the organization that runs the King George V School – confirmed that the incident took place on the school’s premises, and that they were cooperating with authorities.

According to Apple Daily, this is the second time in two days that a young student has been arrested; an 11-year-old student from Emmanuel Primary School in Tsuen Wan was arrested on suspicion of assault on Wednesday for reportedly pushing another student so hard that he started bleeding after hitting his head.

The newspaper reported that the child lashed out because he was called names.
