Beware: We may have a typhoon hitting us next week, according to HKO stats

We all breathed a sigh of relief when the mini-typhoon a few days ago didn’t threaten our long weekend.

Another typhoon might get close to Hong Kong by way of the Philippines next week, however, if Hong Kong Observatory data is anything to go by.

The HKO’s tropical cyclone tracker shows a potential typhoon to the east of the Philippines — which is said to be making its way into 800km within Hong Kong on Monday.

Here’s what the its nine-day weather forecast tells us:

The tropical cyclone east of the Philippines will move across the central part of the South China Sea early to midweek next week. Under the combined effect of the northeast monsoon and the tropical cyclone, it will be windier with rain over the south China coast.

HKO’s Science officer Tsoi Tze-hun told Sky Post that it’s still too early to say whether the storm will hit Hong Kong. Apparently, the storm might cross the north of the Philippines, where the hills will break the wind’s strength.

Looks like the folks at the HKO are more unpredictable than Hong Kong weather itself.
