A Hong Kong woman was among those injured when a van crashed into crowds on a busy Barcelona avenue, in what is being called the worst terror attack in Spain for over a decade.

The Immigration Department said today that an unidentified Hongkonger had been hurt in the terror attack, and was being treated for minor leg injuries. No other Chinese citizens were reported to be affected, according to a statement given by the Consulate General of China in Barcelona.

At least 13 people were killed and around 100 injured when a white Fiat van crashed into crowds on the Las Ramblas promenade, a popular tourist hotspot, at 5pm local time yesterday. The car drove for 500 meters until it crashed into a newspaper kiosk, the Guardian reports.

A statement from the Catalan regional government, cited by Reuters, said that victims came from at least 24 different countries. One Belgian and three Germans are believed to be among the dead.

The Spanish prime minister has condemned the attack as an act of “jihadi terrorism”. The van driver is still on the loose, while Spanish police killed five suspected terrorists today who ran into another crowd with their car in Cambrils, a nearby town.

Both the Barcelona and Cambrils attacks are believed to be related to an explosion which killed one person on Wednesday in Alcanar, a town 200 kilometers south of Barcelona.
