Baby, it’s cold outside: lowest temperatures of the season recorded today

Didn’t we tell you today would be Fffffriday? Hongkongers citywide (probably) wanted to do nothing more than burrow into their warm beds this morning as temperatures dropped to 11 degrees Celsius in urban areas, the lowest recorded so far this winter.

Temperatures in New Territories dropped to an even brrrrisker four and seven degrees Celsius in Ta Kwu Ling and Shek Kong, respectively.

The Hong Kong Observatory had predicted the highest temperature as 15 degrees Celsius, but most “urban areas” have already reached 16-17 degrees at the time of writing.

HKO attributed the recent “cold and dry” (because 41% humidity is dry for HK) weather to a winter monsoon, which can be expected to stick around this weekend before things gradually warm up to 20 degrees around Christmastime.

So much for that roaring fire!
