Baby, it’s cold outside

Bundle up Hong Kong Coconauts, tomorrow morning’s going to be chilly, as temperatures are expected to plunge to 14 degrees or even lower.

According to the Observatory, an intense northeast monsoon is bringing dry and clear weather to the city, perfect for cardigans, maybe even coats.

This morning saw temperatures of 15 and 16 degrees registered in the territory before the mercury rose to about 20 degrees by the afternoon.

“It will be cool tonight,” the Observatory ominously warned, while also noting there a “rather large” temperature difference between night and day in the coming week.

The Observatory has also issued a red fire danger warning, meaning the risk is extreme.

An easterly airstream is expected to affect the coast of neighboring Guangdong province in the middle of next week, with cloudy skies over the region.

Though the temperature is dipping, bear in mind that 2017 is actually on track to be one of the warmest on record, with only six cold days — days colder than 12 degrees — registered so far this year.

The average temperature between September and November was 25.8 degree celsius, the city’s third-warmest ever, wrote the SCMP in a story about 2017’s balmy weather.
