Australian jockey Nash Rawiller suffered a dislocated shoulder and fractures to his ankle and back after a fall during the races in Sha Tin yesterday, which saw two other jockeys injured in the fracas.
Rawiller, 42, was competing in the Class 4 race when his mount, Mr. Oriole, tripped and broke its left foreleg whilst rounding the home turn. Two other jockeys, Karis Teetan and Vincent Ho, also fell after their horses, Noble de Boy and Clever Spirit, swerved out of the way.

Teetan was medically cleared to compete in his five remaining races, whilst Ho was advised to stand down after sustaining minor injuries to his head, according to the Jockey Club. Rawiller, who was feared to have broken his shoulder, was rushed to Prince of Wales Hospital.

Instead, he suffered a dislocated shoulder and fractures to his ankle and back. “I don’t know what the prognosis is for riding again, we’ll know more in the next few days, but it’s a lot better than I thought it was at the time,” Rawiller told the SCMP.
Unfortunately, the diagnosis wasn’t quite as good for Mr. Oriole, who was put down after a veterinary assessment. Noble de Boy and Clever Spirit were reported to be fine but will undergo further assessments today.
Rawiller remains under observation at the hospital. The 42-year-old, who moved to Hong Kong in 2014, is known to local racing enthusiasts as “Chow Fan” (“fried rice”) for his unorthodox riding style, which apparently resembles the tossing motion used by chefs when cooking the popular dish.
