A 69-year-old woman was rescued by emergency services this afternoon after she was caught between a handrail and a truck in Hong Kong’s To Kwa Wan neighborhood.

According to hk01, the truck was carrying water tanks and other construction materials from Kai Tak to Tung Chung and was trying to navigate a particularly narrow turn from Kowloon City Road into Sheung Heung Road.

As it was doing so, it did not notice the elderly woman trying to cross the road, sandwiching her between the handrail and the left side of the vehicle.

While the turn is narrow, the website reports that there are no restrictions on heavy vehicles in that particular area.

Firefighters had to remove the metal handrail in order to free the woman, who was then sent to Kwong Wah Hospital.

According to Apple Daily, the driver was trying to avoid the East Kowloon corridor, which was closed at 1:50pm today for a memorial service to commemorate a police officer who died after he was hit by a truck in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The newspaper reported that 200 people attended the memorial service on the highway, with the highway being reopened just after 4pm.
