At least three people were injured, one seriously, in an eight-vehicle pile-up on Island Eastern Corridor near Lei King Wan during rush hour this morning.

At around 8am, a Central-bound garbage truck rear-ended a taxi, which crashed into six other cars. Another car on Tai On Street, underneath the corridor, was also damaged after being hit by a piece of falling debris, Oriental Daily reports. All the injured were taken to hospital.

One woman who was in a private car was seriously injured.

Part of the Wan Chai-bound lane of the Island Eastern Corridor was briefly closed after the incident, while the area near Tai On Building is still cordoned off. Traffic remains heavy on the expressway, according to HK01.
