3 off-duty cops arrested after allegedly getting into drunken brawl with women in Mong Kok

Three off-duty policemen and three women were arrested in the early hours of today after they allegedly got into a drunken brawl with each other in Mong Kok.

At around 3:30am, a group of four off-duty officers from the Narcotics Bureau were walking along Mong Kok Road after drinking at a bar on Argyle Road, and passed three women, all aged 22, Apple Daily reports. As the groups passed each other, one of the women reportedly accused one of the men off groping her buttocks.

After getting into a verbal dispute, the two groups allegedly began fighting on the street, with the exception of one of the police officers, who reportedly tried and failed to stop the fight.

A passerby who witnessed the argument called the police, who arrested all six men and women on suspicion of fighting in public. They were soon released on bail and taken to hospital for minor injuries, including the officer who hadn’t participated in the fight, who was reportedly hit with a folding chair.

All six are required to report back to the police later this month.

The arrested officers, including a sergeant and two constables, aged 31 to 40, will face a criminal investigation and a disciplinary hearing, the police force said in a statement. “Should any staff break the laws, police will not tolerate it,” a spokesperson told the SCMP.

The police force has been hit by various scandals recently, including the jailing of a station sergeant who stole HKD1.07 million of bail money from police headquarters.

An internal investigation has been launched against a superintendent who was accused of harassing several female subordinates during a Christmas party in Kwun Tong police station last Wednesday.

Last year, a chief inspector was transferred to a regional traffic unit after he allegedly sent photos of his genitals to a female colleague.
