21-year-old arrested for sharing unreleased Eason Chan songs in Hong Kong forum

A 21-year-old man has been arrested for sharing recordings of a concert by Hong Kong singer Eason Chan in an online discussion forum.

Customs officers for the Intellectual Property Investigation Bureau announced that a house in Kwun Tong was raided last Wednesday, with “computer equipment with a total value of about HKD7,400” seized… so probably just a MacBook then.

The authorities were tipped off that someone had been sharing recordings of a concert Chan played to 50 fans in Wan Chai in September last year. The gig gave a preview of tunes from his “Get Ready” album, which was not released until July this year, HKFP reports.

According to the Copyright Ordinance, the 21-year-old could face a maximum penalty of four years in jail and a fine of HKD50,000 for each infringed copy. He has been released on bail while investigations continue.

Take note, kids. Apparently sharing is not always caring.
