Hong Kong is one of the world’s biggest meat consumers — in fact, we eat 38 percent more meat than Americans.
A survey by marketing research firm Ipsos will come as a surprise then, discovering that one out of every four Hongkonger is a vegetarian and 12 percent of people go vegetarian once a week, with eight percent choosing to eat vegetarian half the time.
Full-time vegetarians make up three percent. Based on this phone survey of 1,006 Hong Kongers aged between 15-64, it is estimated that 1.6 million Hongkongers choose to go vegetarian once a week.
