A 13-year-old schoolboy died this morning after apparently falling from an apartment building in the fifth student death this month.

Ming Pao reports that a security guard at Wah Fu Estate discovered the Form 1 student lying unconscious in a pool of his blood on the ground outside Wah King House at around 7am this morning. He was in his school uniform.

The boy, surnamed Lung, was certified dead on the scene. According to HK01, police did not find a suicide note.

This is the second such case to take place in the last five days.

On Friday evening, a 15-year-old student at West Island School plunged to his death inside the busy Times Square shopping centre at Causeway Bay after posting an apparent suicide note on Instagram.

Meanwhile, another 15-year-old boy is in hospital fighting for his life after his mother found him hanging from a noose inside their Yau Tong apartment on Sunday afternoon.

Last year, a Committee on Prevention of Student Suicides was established after 35 students committed suicide during the academic year. The committee published a report stating that there were usually a “number of complex factors” at play in such cases, like mental health issues, family relationships, and a lack of social support.

A spokesperson for the Education Bureau recently told Apple Daily that the EDB was considering a number of changes suggested by the committee, such as emphasising non-academic achievements and introducing better mental health support in schools.
