Kwai Tsing

If you need proof that mashing two names together didn’t begin with celebrity couples, look no further than Kwai Tsing. The relatively young district encompasses Kwai Chung and Tsing Yi Island in the New Territories, the former of which is most famous for its container terminals, and the latter of which is most famous for the start of Tsing Ma Bridge (and maybe also for being an Airport Express stop). As a former industrial hub, Kwai Tsing is dotted with warehouse and factory buildings, which have since been converted to house scores of small workshops, small art and fashion studios, concept shops, and coffee shops. Industrial-chic has never been more chic. For a calm, picturesque day out, take a stroll along the Tsing Yi promenade, or visit the scenic Tsing Yi Park, with its photogenic lakes and waterfalls. Depending on the season, you’ll be able to catch the maple leaves changing colour, or the cherry trees bursting with blossoms.
