The bottomless pit that is lotteries aimed at driving up Hong Kong’s pathetic vaccination rates is putting forth another incentive: free movie tickets.

The Hong Kong Theaters Association’s lucky draw opened Sunday, inviting those who are fully vaccinated to win movie vouchers for a year.

Five winners will be selected, and the 365 vouchers can be redeemed for 2D regular-priced tickets at cinemas across Hong Kong.

Anybody with a Hong Kong Identity Card is eligible to enter the draw, which will take place on Oct. 4. The deadline to register is Sept. 15.

A year’s worth of movie tickets may not be a brand new HK$10.8 million (US$1.4 million) apartment, or even lawmaker Regina Ip’s personal diamond Rolex, but hey, we’re not greedy. We’ll take what we can get.

About 42% of Hong Kong’s population is fully vaccinated, according to official data Monday. The city lags behind many western countries, and its progress is a far cry from neighboring Singapore, where 75% of people have received two COVID-19 vaccine doses.
