He Didn’t Stop Believin’: Former LKF singer Arnel Pineda returns to Hong Kong with Journey this February!

Filipino singer Arnel Pineda, best known as the lead singer for Journey, will be making his return to Hong Kong this February for the band’s first ever concert in the Fragrant Harbour.

But while his bandmates have never appeared on a Hong Kong stage, Pineda’s a seasoned performer on the local circuit, having fronted various cover bands in Lan Kwai Fong bars about 10 years ago.

He’s been credited with making the band feel “reborn” ever since joining the lineup in 2007, after being scouted on Youtube in our favourite real life Cinderella (or Cinder-fella) story.

But enough about Arnel! He is, after all, just one of five very talented musicians in Journey. The American rockers, who first got together in the 1970s, shot to international fame with smash hits like “Don’t Stop Believin'”, “Any Way You Want It”, and “Faithfully”.

Following an eight-year-hiatus, the band reformed in 1995 but didn’t really strike a chord with younger audiences until the late 2000s, when “Don’t Stop Believin'” was played on the final episode of “The Sopranos”, covered on the first episode of “Glee”, and sung in the jukebox musical “Rock of Ages”.

Since Pineda joined their ranks, Journey’s released two new albums (one of which was certified platinum) and completed seven major tours, so we’d say it’s about damn time they make a stop here!
