Clockenews Alert!

Queen of Neo-Soul, Erykah Badu, will be closing this year’s Clockenflap music festival.

The surprise announcement, made by organizers over the weekend, adds Badu to an already impressive list of headliners that include David Byrne, Interpol, Jarvis Cocker, Cigarettes After Sex, and others.

The critically acclaimed R&B singer, known for her eclectic hats and headscarves — but most of all her distinct and powerful voice — is considered royalty of the ‘90s neo-soul movement, a style blending soul, R&B, jazz and wider elements, from funk and hip hop to African music.

Here’s one of her first big hits — On & On — from her 1997 debut album Baduizm.

Festival organizers also revealed that in addition to the Badu’s set, they will be lowering ticket prices back to phase one prices until midnight, Wednesday, October 31.

For those who have already purchased phase two tickets, they will recoup the difference in price in the form of pre-topped up credit on your festival wristband.

Phase one ticket prices:

  • General admission 3-Day weekend tickets are $1,620
  • General admission Friday tickets are $890
  • General admission Saturday and Sunday tickets are $1,080
  • Student 3-Day weekend tickets are $1,080
  • Student Friday tickets are $570
  • Student Saturday and Sunday tickets are $640

Clockenflap starts next week and runs Nov. 9, 10 and 11 at Hong Kong’s Central Harbourfront. Acts this year include David Byrne, Interpol, Jarvis Cocker, Cigarettes After Sex, Irvine Welsh, The Vaccines, and many more. Three-day passes and tickets for individual days remain available here.
